The aurora made itself present in states as far south as AR on the eve of May 9th. Iowa was mainly cloud covered and had a very thick cover of smoke from wildfires in MN and Canada. A few observations where ovserved through the clouds and haze. Mainly a green glow. Too bad the wx didn't cooperate.

Creston, IA tornado 4/27/16
An unusual tornado day, temps in sw IA where in the low 60s and overcast. However, there was a strong low pressure located in eastern NE. The LCLs was very low and the storms formed along the warm front. Mean storm movement was 358@40. Tornado for sw of Creston and lifted to approx 200 ft AGL until it passed Creston. Then it sat down just north of town. A few power flashes were noticed, but the area is mainly pastureland and no damage noted.
